South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has signed another agreement with an African harbour authority as part of its strategy to support regional-integration efforts.

Its latest memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, with similar agreements having already been inked with the Maputo Port Development Corporation and the Namibian Port Authority.

TNPA indicates that further MoU’s will be signed with the ports of Angola, Kenya, Tanzania and Sudan later this year.

CEO Tau Morwe stresses that regional integration is a key aspect of Transnet’s Africa Strategy and that the agreements have been designed to boost the efficiency, reliability and cost effectiveness of port services.

The MoUs open the way for greater sharing of maritime experiences, as well as the exchange of technical expertise in relation to port management, port operations, port engineering, port environment and security as well as training.
