The South African National Energy Association (Sanea) will host a two-day conference, dubbed ‘Action for Energy’, between June 4 and 5, 2009, where it aims to provide an overview of the issues confronting energy leaders.
“Now, more than ever, South Africa, and indeed the world, needs well-informed, proactive and inspirational leadership on energy matters,” said Sanea chairperson Brian Statham.
“Sanea has as a prime objective the dissemination of information and the facilitation of dialogue on energy matters, covering the supply and use of energy and all the related elements necessary for a sustainable energy future.”
He added that given the breadth and complexity of the energy sector, it was very difficult to keep up to date with the issues facing energy leaders today.
“Ironically, emerging leaders and support staff are frequently channeled into particular lines of activity simply to keep up with the demands placed on them. The result is narrower focus and insular thinking at the very time when decision making requires the broadest possible context if we are to effectively transition to a new energy based society and economy.”
The two-day conference would not be a volume event, with delegate numbers restricted to 150. The agenda was designed to ensure audience interaction and networking.
Sanea’s membership base consists of corporate organisations and individuals residing within the broad energy sector including companies such as BHP Billiton, Exxaro Resources, Sasol, City Power, Engen Petroleum, Accenture, National Treasury and the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
