JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The prefeasibility study (PFS) for Tanzania-focused Kibo Mining’s planned 300 MW power plant at its Rukwa coal-to-power project (RCPP), in Tanzania, would start immediately, with the full study to be completed early next month, the company announced on Monday.

Kibo CEO Louis Coetzee said that, following its appointment, engineering and technical services company Aurecon had undertaken a review of historically gathered information, with the comprehensive nature of the data available having enabled the firm to commit to the delivery of the PFS next month.

“This accelerated delivery matches our desire to progress the RCPP on an expeditious timetable and further supports the veracity and value of the project in the face of finalisation of discussions with strategic project partners,” he commented.

The power plant PFS would cover the conventional PFS elements associated with a power plant feasibility study, while also assessing certain key parameters required for planning the definitive power feasibility study on the Rukwa power plant.

Kibo said the power PFS was an important milestone for the RCPP as its marked the stage where feasibility work had progressed sufficiently to allow the integrated feasibility study – comprising mining and power aspects – to continue concurrently.
