The Africa Energy Indaba 2024 is a significant event in the energy sector, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, innovators, and stakeholders. Republic of Mozambique Pipeline Investments Company (ROMPCO) is a Gold Sponsor of the event, which takes place from 5 to 7 March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

CEO Mlandzeni Boyce will address delegates about maximising the value of Africa’s natural resources. He will also participate in a panel discussion about the looming gas crisis. With the gas supply from Mozambique reducing, African gas consumers are left vulnerable. “How do we accelerate efforts for alternative gas supply?” questions Boyce.

The industry is currently grappling with significant challenges, including alternative gas supply concerns, elevated gas prices, and uncertainties stemming from the anticipated decline of the Pande and Temane gas fields.

Boyce adds that the private sector stands to play a pivotal role to foster collaboration and actively working to aggregate gas supply, such as the Matola Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) project off the coast of Mozambique.

Gas is more efficient than coal-thermal power and presents a greener alternative, aligning with global efforts to reduce emissions. Integrating gas-to-power systems also readies the grid for a growing share of renewable energy sources.

“Gas supply plays a pivotal role in Africa’s energy mix by enhancing energy security, promoting sustainability, and facilitating the transition toward cleaner and more efficient power generation. ROMPCO’s strategy for 2024 involves partnering with both gas suppliers and users to promptly seek alternative solutions and ensure a continuous and reliable gas supply,” concludes Boyce.

Be sure to visit ROMPCO at Stand F7 at Africa Energy Indaba 2024 at the Cape Town International Convention from 5 to 7 March.
