Project Description

The project involves the construction of a hydroelectric plant, with an installed capacity of 3 600 MW – the equivalent of three nuclear power plants.

The project will exploit the Pamir mountain range’s huge hydroelectric power potential and includes four lots.

The first lot envisages the diversion of the Vakhsh river that will be done with the confluence of two diversion tunnels in a mountainside to keep the foundations of the dam dry.

It includes the construction of a 335-m- high rockfill dam with a clay core, the tallest in the world, on the Vakhsh river.

Latest Developments

Salini Impregilo signed a framework agreement worth $3.9-billion in July this year to build the hydroelectric plant.

The group has also been assigned the first of four work lots worth $1.95-billion. The three remaining lots are expected to be assigned to the group by September 30.
