The low-cost, Eezifone cellphone enables the security, technical services, mining and commercial industries to provide normal emergency communications for all its mobile workers.

The cellphone is about the size of a credit card, weighs 40 g and can only dial preprogrammed numbers.

The purpose of the Eezifone is to provide control over and visibility of communication costs, while ensuring that the user can always be contacted or make a call when required. Users also have access to an emergency button, which will automatically locate the cellphone to pinpoint the user and dispatch assistance, says Eezifone sales and marketing director Martin Bizior.

“The Eezifone has no commercial value to anyone except to the owner or user of the phone, as it is customised for his or her use, removing the potential for theft. The battery lasts up to three days on standby, or can last up to a year if switched off, making an Eezifone a useful emergency communications tool for companies or consumers.”

The preprogrammed numbers or the keyboard configuration can be changed in real time using a Web-based interface. This makes the Eezifone useful for service delivery companies, logistics firms, as well as commercial representatives or salespeople, as companies can change the numbers a delivery or service agent can call.

Additional features, such as adding ‘please call me’ functions and medical aid details onto the back of the handset, extend the utility of small mobile phone.

Further, the Eezifone can also include a radio frequency identification tag for access-control purposes, while an image of the user can be displayed on the back of the cellphone, along with any ancillary details. Companies can provide a cost-effective access control and communication system for contractors across various sites.

The Eezifone can be configured with 2 to 12 preprogrammed buttons, excluding the emergency button, and can be bought on contract or on a prepaid basis. Airtime can be uploaded through the Eezifone Web-based management console from automated teller machines or from cellphone kiosks. Companies can set airtime top-up levels and floor limits to automate the recharge process while controlling costs.

“Eezifones can be custom-branded with companies’ colours and logos, while consumers can choose from 260 designs on the Eezifone website, such as cartoon images for children, to personalise the cellphones.”
