Project Description
The project involves the resurfacing of the road between Grahamstown and Fort Beaufort.

The road to be resurfaced is about 70.7 km long and extends northwards to the N2 near Grahamstown (0 km road marker) to the intersection with the R63 at Fort Beaufort.

The project includes the resurfacing of:
• the N2 (0 km road marker – Grahamstown) up to the road reserve boundary;
• the municipal road MR0086 (west) to the 0.2 km road marker – Grahamstown up to the road reserve boundary,
• the link road to Grahamstown (1.1 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• the district road DR02039 (east) to Committees Drift (9 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• the district road DR20396 (east) to the Glen Melville dam (15.4 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• district road DR02043 (west) to Krans Drift and district road DR02044 (east) to Committees Drift (21.2 km road marker) to the road reserve boundary;
• entrance to Fort Brown police station (22.6 km road marker);
• district road DR02055 (west) to Douglas Heights (28.2 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• district road DR92044 (west) to Prieel (50.6 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• district road DR02059 (west) to Prieel (50.6 km road marker) to the road reserve boundary;
• district road DR02475 (east) (63.2 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary;
• district road DR024461 (west) (68.8 km road marker) up to the road reserve boundary, and
• the R63 (70.7 km road marker).

The roadworks will comprise proactive preventive maintenance; the accommodation of traffic, excavation, shaping and trimming of drainage, pavement repairing, pretreatment/texture slurry, double-seal resurfacing and ancillary works; and the surfacing of existing shoulders.
