The technology leader in electrification and automation will provide the RES4Africa Foundation with technical expertise on decentralised, digital and innovative solutions, laying the foundations for common partnership efforts, capacity building, and more

Rome, 21st February 2023 – ABB has officially become an ordinary member of RES4Africa Foundation, paving the way for joint activities and collaboration.

RES4Africa's vision of providing sustainable electricity access to all of Africa has been pursued since 2012, by gathering together member entities and companies operating across different fields of the renewable energy market as the world seeks to accelerate the energy transition to renewable energy sources. Such a goal complements ABB's efforts to enable a low carbon society, preserve resources and promote social progress, whilst still supporting business and economic growth.

ABB's areas of specialisation (electrification and automation) fully align with RES4Africa's programmes. The two entities will thus be able to undertake future joint activities, based on technical know-how, dedicated capacity building, construction of public-private partnerships, and more.

"We’re delighted to welcome ABB to our membership, which enriches RES4Africa's network and potential endeavours," said Roberto Vigotti, RES4Africa's Secretary General. "Its priceless technical experience, matched with a far-reaching vision of a decarbonised world, will be an irreplaceable asset for a common pursuit of Africa's energy transition, based on groundbreaking solutions and state-of-the-art technologies".

“As a member of the RES4Africa Foundation, ABB is sharing our expertise on renewable integration and smart grid technology to support Africa's energy transition," said Alessandra Grisolia, Global Account Manager and ABB Representative at RES4Africa. "Africa has huge untapped clean energy potential, and by working together, we can enable a more sustainable and resource-efficient future for the continent.”

RES4Africa Foundation (Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa) envisions the sustainable transformation of Africa’s electricity systems to ensure reliable and affordable electricity access for all, enabling the continent to achieve its full, resilient, inclusive and sustainable development. The Foundation’s mission is to create favourable conditions for scaling up investments in clean energy technologies to accelerate the continent’s just energy transition and transformation.
