JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Tanzania-focused mineral exploration and development company Kibo Mining has identified a 30 km strike of nickel-platinum prospectivity at its 100%-owned Haneti project, in the Dodoma region, following receipt of a comprehensive technical report covering full historical exploration and technical data.

The report, prepared by Mzuri Exploration Services, the company’s exploration service provider in Tanzania, confirmed high-priority nickel and platinum group metals (PGMs) targets at Mwaka and Mihanza Hill, as well as the potential of the project to host lithium pegmatite mineralisation, which would be further investigated.

It included the full data and conclusions drawn from the 2013 exploration programme and provided a detailed assessment and recommendations for steps to be taken to confirm the nature and extent of mineralisation identified.

Based on the technical report, the dual-listed miner would now focus future activities on key tenements highly prospective for target mineralisation.

Detailed aerial aeromagnetic, radiometric and gravity data from a recently flown government survey in the region would, when made available later this year, supplement Kibo’s existing information database and technical understanding of the project.

CEO Louis Coetzee said in a statement that the report demonstrated the strategic importance of Haneti and its potential to deliver a considerable opportunity to the company in future, making the project one of Kibo’s key assets.

He asserted that the results from the 2013 exploration programme at Haneti, when integrated with prior historical work undertaken, demonstrated the high degree of prospectivity evident on the ground.

“Haneti provides Kibo with exposure to highly attractive nickel, gold and PGM targets, as well as potential strategic metal opportunities with lithium and niobium prospectivity,” Coetzee commented.

“The prospectivity confirmed in the report is exciting for the company and shareholders, and we intend to move forward with the key steps outlined above in a disciplined manner to unlock the potential value for shareholders.”
