R33m Waterfall Mall refurbishment to be completed by Dec
The R33-million refurbishment of the Waterfall Mall in Rustenburg, in the North West, which was expected to enhance the shopping experience and add new services to its offering, was scheduled to be completed by December, property development company and mall owner Growthpoint Properties said on Tuesday.
Most of the refurbishment work, which had already started, was taking place at night to reduce the inconvenience to shoppers and retailers and allow the centre’s trading to continue as usual.
Growthpoint stated that the decision to invest in the future of the 50 000 m2 mall was also an investment in the future of the region, which had been hard hit by the recent mining strikes.
“Waterfall Mall’s refurbishment will boost our shopping experience with sparkling new tiles in the malls and passages, fresh new bathrooms and a contemporary new design for our bulkheads. It will also help bring a welcome boost to our local economy,” Waterfall Mall centre manager Marlene Bouwer noted, adding that, where possible, local contractors were being used for the refurbishment.
Following the refurbishment, the mall would also have a new information kiosk that would provide information about the mall, as well as about local tourism and accommodation within the greater North West region, thus supporting the travel and tourism industry in the area.
To help shoppers easily find the stores and services inside the mall, three new digital touchscreens with information and directions would also be provided.
Meanwhile, the mall had also established a charity platform to donate the fixtures it was replacing, such as wash hand basins, toilets, urinals and about 7 000 m2 of tiles to charity and community organisations, Growthpoint added.
In conjunction with the refurbishment, Waterfall Mall was also refreshing its brand and would be introducing a new logo and artwork.
