A.B.E Construction Chemicals’ range of flooring products has been expanded with the local distribution rights for the VIP QuickFloor system that can cure in less than an hour to enable flooring contractors to provide new flooring overnight or even faster.
The rapid curing eliminates costly downtime for users of industrial and commercial floors, says Noel Abendroth, head of the a.b.e. Polyurea Division. A.B.E, part of the Chryso Southern Africa Group, is the sole South African distributor for Voelkel Industrie Produkte (VIP) in Germany, leading European suppliers of coatings, industrial adhesives, and joint sealants. a.b.e. has over the past few years experienced particularly strong demand for VIP Polyurea systems and the company’s dedicated Polyurea division has successfully completed several high-profile project in recent years.
Abendroth says the QuickFloor system is based on polyaspartic technology, which is derived from Polyurea principles. “The VIP QuickFloor system primarily consists of VIP QuickFloor 100, an eco-friendly industrial grade, high-build base coat which is solvent- and VOC-free; and VIP QuickFloor 500, an exceptionally quick-acting, roller-applied aliphatic top coat which provides excellent adhesion to concrete substrates.
“QuickFloor 100 base coat is typically used as a moisture barrier base coat on concrete substrates, or as the primary and secondary base coat for industrial flooring. The product bonds exceptionally well with dry or damp concrete, and has strong resistance to abrasion and chemicals. It remains stable even in high temperature variations and humidity.
“The elastomeric QuickFloor 500 top coat cures in an astounding 30 to 60 minutes to a very clear finish and is also environmentally friendly with low viscosity and odour. The seamless, flexible coating provides superior chemical resistance compared with solvent-driven epoxies and urethanes. The coating is ideal for harsh marine conditions with strong resistance to chlorine and saltwater and that is why it was recently specified for the Cape Town Aquarium’s new Predator Tank,” Abendroth added.
He says the QuickFloor system – which can also be squeegee, or brush/roller-applied - is ideal for new floors or flooring renovation at aircraft hangars, warehouses, restaurants and kitchens, shopping malls, hospitals, and car park decks. “It is available in a wide range of colours but can be supplied in custom-made colours, and with quartz and chips added for decorative effect. a.b.e. is expecting strong demand for the new system particularly as its remarkably quick curing time is vital for industries requiring rapid reuse of factory or warehouse floors, and retail outlets that cannot afford trading disruptions,” Abendroth added.
