Company Announcement - The biggest ever Propak Cape, incorporating FoodPro, Pro-Plas Expo, Print Expo and Pro-Label Cape, is taking place at the Cape Town International Conference Centre from 21-23 October and will be showcasing the packaging, food processing, plastics, printing, labelling and wine manufacturing equipment industries.

“There is a full programme for visitors to Propak Cape with the latest machinery and equipment on show, daily live demonstrations and industry experts on the stands to interact with visitors,” says Gary Corin, Managing Director of Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, the organisers of Propak Cape. “IPSA will be hosting a number of sessions, in conjunction with Propak Cape, on the first morning of the show (21 October), on key trends and legislation effecting companies in the packaging and related sectors. There will be a free-to-attend seminar on the afternoon of 21 and 22 October and for a full day on 23 October covering topics on packaging, plastics, printing, food labelling regulations, effective food processing, recycling, design, innovation and leadership, amongst others.”

Plastics SA is also running two workshops alongside Propak Cape with the themes ‘Spotlight on Responsible Packaging and Value Chain Thinking’ and ‘Zero Plastics to Landfill’. Showcasing the latest products and technology advancements, Propak Cape will enable visitors to see the best of what this innovative industry can produce. With over 230 exhibitors showcasing the latest products and technology advancements, Propak Cape will enable visitors to see the best of what this innovative industry can produce.

Eptech is exhibiting the Kronen Model GS-10, a belt-fed cutting machine for fruits and vegetables, suitable for slicing long products like carrots and cucumbers and for shredding of leaf vegetables. For the first time at Propak Cape, they will be demonstrating the Tenrit Model Solo-C Carrot Knife Peeler, a machine which is fast becoming the standard for carrot peeling, due to the fact that the entire carrot is peeled in such a way that it looks hand-peeled and totally without abrasions on the outer surface, thus promoting shelf life.

Marel will be launching a waterproof box labeller at Propak Cape. Marel’s proven OCM9500 box and crate labeller has been upgraded with a waterproof chassis and indicator to withstand full washdown to IP69K, subject to the printer being covered or removed. This labeller is the first full wash down machine in the market. The waterproof OCM9500 box/crate labeller is suitable for automatic weighing and labelling applications in both wet and dry production environments. The unit handles crates and boxes up to 40kg in weight, providing consistent weighing accuracy with automatic zero tracking.

One of the new systems that will be on display and demonstrated by Pyrotec PackMark is the new Laser C350. The SmartLase C series offers the right configuration for each industry, always providing a solution whatever the rate, size and substrate of the product with a wide choice of lenses, scan heads and laser sources. The SL C150, SL C350 and SL C350 L are designed for markets such as frozen food, chocolate confectionery and dried process food that need to code paper-based containers. The SL C150 S and SL C350 S are designed to code on PET, reducing the risk of piercing containers, even lightweight thin-walled bottles. Multivac Southern Africa will be launching its new R 085 entry-level model for thermoforming packaging at Propak Cape. The machine can be used for running both flexible films and rigid films and is suitable for packing non-food products as well as food. This machine will be up and running on the Multivac stand to form part of a complete packaging line.

Traceability Solutions is bringing the “greenest continuous inkjet printer available in the South African market” to Propak Cape. The KBA Metronic AlphaJet Mondo is the perfect combination of performance, quality and low running costs.  This high quality German engineered system with a safety rating of IP65, gives the user the best print quality and utmost preciseness, without the need for compressed air.  This system’s low maintenance and clever design sets new standard for inkjet printing in South Africa.

Heat and Control will showcase the compact DiversaCut Sprint Dicer which accepts a wide variety of fruit and vegetables, and produces small to large sizes of dices. With the ability to switch easily from one type of cut to another, the compact Urschel cutting machine offers processors versatility, flexibility, and efficiency. Through Urschel engineering advancements, the DiversaCut Sprint Dicer offers a compact size with almost infinite production possibilities, and produces a myriad of flat or crinkle slices, strip cuts, and dices up to 1" (25.4 mm). Switching over from one type of cut to another is simplified through a changeover advantage: processors benefit from the combination of the built-in circular knife support assembly, in addition to the manageable weight of the crosscut spindle, and a cost-saving, insertable slicing knife. The Sprint outputs excellent quality cuts due to a compact cutting zone that easily transitions product from one cutting component to the next. Also on display will be Heat and Control’s innovative range of On-Machine Seasoning Systems, Spray Dynamics Seasoning and Coating Systems and In-Kitchen Seasoning systems.

As a leading rigid plastic packaging manufacturer, Polyoak Packaging will be showcasing packaging solutions from each of its specialist divisions at Propak Cape including Dairypack Tubs and Polyoak’s newest bucket division Contan. Dairypack will be present with their light weight dairy bottle range; Polypet continue to offer its bottles incorporating recycled PET material; and Blowpack will feature their highly customised range for mainly industrial applications. Dairypack Tubs will present a real game-changer with the first ever retortable barrier plastic tub in South Africa. Polyoak will be showing off their impressive new decoration capability – another first in South Africa – and Contan will show off the attractive new welded handle on their 5 L PolyCan.

Tectra Automation, a Hytec Group Company, will be bringing the latest vacuum technology capabilities to Propak Cape. Showcasing a range of its products pertinent to South Africa’s packaging, plastics and logistics industries, there will be a special focus on the Schmalz vacuum material handling, lifting systems and cranes. Tectra Automation will also be showcasing selected pneumatic products from Aventics, electric drive and control components, linear motion components and assembly technology from Bosch Rexroth. Goldmann Engineering will showcase world leading brands Eagle PI, Baader, Trio, Econopak, Alco, Salmco and Webomatic at Propak Cape, which cater for the food processing Industry and focus on promoting food safety. The company will be launching the Eagle Product Inspection range of X-Ray machines. This includes the latest inspection technology software to enhance quality assurance in a production environment. The Student Gold Pack Awards will also be a feature at Propak Cape this year. This is a reward programme for students in packaging, design and food sciences who show an insight into the challenges of packaging and the interaction of the multiplicity of disciplines involved.

“The student national award finalists entries will be on display at Propak Cape,” says Corin, adding that Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery is proud to be associated with this event again this year, as they have been over many years. Propak Cape has the support of The Institute of Packaging in SA , Printing SA, Plastics SA and the Packaging Council of South Africa. For greater reach into Africa and overseas, Propak Cape also enjoys the support of Chambers of Commerce and Trade Consuls throughout Africa.
