JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Prairie Mining said on Wednesday that it had made substantial progress in various permitting aspects of its Lublin coal project, in Poland, which would pave the way for a mining concession application in the first half of 2017.

In Poland, companies had to submit a deposit development plan (DDP), obtain an environmental consent decision and apply to rezone land where surface infrastructure was to be located.

Prairie reported that it had completed a DDP, which was a standard mine technical and economic study. The DDP included economic assumptions based on the project’s prefeasibility study (PFS), which showed that the mine would deliver 6.34-million tonnes a year of saleable coal production at steady state. Average run-of-mine coal production was estimated at eight-million tonnes a year.

The company said it would shortly lodge the DDP with the provincial mining authority in Lublin for final review.

Prairie further reported that it was on track to complete all environmental requirements and submit an environmental and social impact assessment to the regional authorities at the beginning of the third quarter of this year. An environmental decision was expected in early 2017.

The PFS, which was published in March, estimated that construction would start in 2018.
