The tender for Eskom’s distribution and transmission MV AIS switchgear was issued in 2015 and Powertech Switchgear seized the opportunity to submit on tender obligation. The tender was awarded in March 2017 and Powertech Switchgear managed to gain five years of supply.

Eskom requirement is to manufacture, supply, test, commission and install 11kV, 22kV and 33kV Outdoor Air Insulated Medium Voltage Circuit Breakers with combined Current Transformers including control gear, nationally, for a duration of five years.

With almost 8 years of MV and HV Switchgear market experience, Powertech Switchgear have managed to grow within the Power Infrastructure arena. Actively marketing products within the African and Sub-Saharan areas including Mozambique, Zimbabwe, DRC, Zambia, Kenya and Ghana countries globally, and within South Africa. This is due to the high technically compliance of the product, the reliability and below industry standard lead times.

The supply of switchgear underwent a Factory Acceptance Test at Powertech Switchgear’s Principle in China. The product passed the Koeburg Insulation Test Cycle of One Year (KIPTS) and conforms to IEC62271 Part 100 standard. The switchgear is economical and easy to install with its modular design that operates in three various voltages namely 12kV, 24kV and 36kV, spare parts and technical backup is readily available locally.

Powertech Switchgear is committed to the countries localisation program and will in due course open a facility in the Kwa-Zulu Natal area, thus providing job opportunity, training and skills.
