Industry body Potatoes SA will host a Research Symposium on July 18 and 19, themed “roots in the ground with the future in mind”.

The symposium will review and discuss the Potatoes SA research portfolio, including the organisation’s collaborative efforts with partners such as the universities of Pretoria, Stellenbosch, North West and Free State, as well as the Agricultural Research Council.

Stakeholders will reflect on the challenges faced by the South African potato industry and determine what innovation needs to be prioritised, including progressive and sustainable farming and manufacturing processes.

Alternative uses for low-grade potatoes, soil health and ecology, data and digital technologies to mitigate risks and new market access are all topical issues in the industry.

Although the event is fully booked already, Potatoes SA will share extracts from presentations and discussions with the wider public after the event.
