PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Nickel miner Poseidon Nickel has restarted refurbishment activities at its Mt Windarra mine, in Western Australia, ahead of inking a possible toll treatment agreement.

Earlier this year, Poseidon revealed that it was investigating options for toll treatment for its Mt Windarra ore, which could deliver production of between 350 000 t/y and 700 000 t/y, over the first two years of production.

The miner said this week that over the last few months, the company had made progress towards an offtake contract, which would bring the Mt Windarra mine back into full-scale operation.

The miner was so confident that the negotiations would prove positive, that it was now moving to refurbish the mine site in an effort to reduce the lead time to full production. Poseidon was preparing to restart underground operations and was completing the necessary maintenance work on the water extraction system.

Furthermore, Poseidon also purchased additional underground pumps and would start installing these.

The company had also employed a GM for operations to expedite the path to production, as well as a marketing officer to assist in completing the company’s current ore offtake contracts and to negotiate mining contracts to assist with the mine restart.
