Project Description
The waste-to-energy project is an Australian first and will convert an estimated 100 000 t of waste, which would otherwise have gone to landfill, into a clean and renewable energy source.

The project, which uses technology developed in Western Australia (WA), could produce 72 MW of thermal energy and up to 18 MW at full capacity, enough energy to power the equivalent of 21 000 homes in the Pilbara.

Latest Developments
The WA Environmental Protection Authority’s (EPA) has recommended that the project be approved by the WA Minister for Environment, after it was considered at the highest level of assessment through a Public Environmental Review.

The decision of the EPA was open to public appeal for two weeks before the Minister made a final decision on the project.
