Mainline is a new track-based mains power system brought to the South African market by Magnitech and developed by Australia-based Power and Data Corporation.
Magnitech’s Cyril Budin explains that Mainline is adaptable, ‘futureproof’ and a simple means of delivering mains power to where people need it.
“Once the track has been installed, 230 V power adaptors can be added, removed and moved easily. It is durable and made from recyclable copper and PVC,” he says.
The adaptors tap directly into the conductors, which are housed in the track and allow power access at any point along its length.
The product was designed in 2002 and was based on the idea that, as more products, such as computers and phones, would become mobile, it made little sense to charge them from fixed power outlets.
