Seals manufacturer and specialist AESSeal says its new all-stainless-steel double mechanical plug- and-go cartridge seal, the T05VC, offers significantly lower operational costs over time than its disposable counter- parts.
The company points out that the cost of maintaining and repairing dewatering pumps for the mining and construction industries is high. When using a mechanical seal that is easy to change and cost effective to operate, the costs come down.
Plastic disposable mechanical seals can go a long way towards meeting this challenge; however, the disadvantage of these seals is the accumulating costs associated with continual seal replacement, states AESSeal.
Further, it says that while disposable seals offer foolproof mounting with a perfect fit and quick, simple replacement, they are manufactured entirely from plastic and other low-cost materials, and have been designed specifically to prevent disassembly and repair.
Also, disposable seals contain an inner rotary component that seals dynamically onto the pump shaft, which can cause fretting problems.
By contrast, AESSeal’s T05VC seal has been designed for easy disassembly for repair.
It also features a full-length sleeve that protects the dewatering pump shaft from fretting and mechanical damage, extending the mean time between failures and minimising pro- duction losses through downtime.
Although the initial purchase price of the disposable seal is lower, the con- tinual replacement over time exceeds the cost of buying a T05VC and repairing it, says AESSeal.
