Phiri joins the Amplats board
Former Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) CEO Steve Phiri has been appointed as a nonexecutive director of Anglo American Platinum (Amplats), with effect from October 10.
"[His] appointment supports the orderly succession and rotation of long serving directors in terms of skills retention and handover of key positions," Amplats says.
Phiri's contract as CEO of RBPlat came to an end on August 31, after RBPlat was bought out by fellow platinum group metals miner Impala Platinum (Implats).
Phiri had initially intended to step down as RBPlat CEO in 2022, but this was delayed when both Implats and Northam Platinum announced plans to acquire RBPlat.
After a drawn out process, Implats finally succeeded in its bid to take full control of RBPlat, which is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Implats and has been renamed Impala Bafokeng.
