Osborn to supply R11m modular plant to Russian iron-ore facility
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Johannesburg-based equipment manufacturer Osborn has been awarded an R11-million export order to supply a full modular plant to the Al Rosa iron-ore facility, in Russia, the company announced on Thursday.
In addition to the full modular plant, which offered primary and secondary crushing and screening capabilities, Osborn would also supply the facility with a 5 x 14 screen.
Osborn marketing director Martin Botha said Osborn’s equipment was suitable for the harsh operating environment in Siberia, where temperatures dropped to -40 °C.
He commented that this order was particularly significant, as it was expect to drive further business for Osborn in Russia’s Siberia region, as well as in neighbouring Mongolia.
“With an abundance of minerals and one of the world’s fastest growing economies, Mongolia has become a hotspot for global mining firms,” he said.
Osborn had also previously secured orders for its plants from several South African mines, as well as operations in Zambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Namibia.
Botha said the increasing demand for Osborn’s plants could be attributed to the fact that they offered substantial savings in terms of transport, civil and installation costs.
“Our modular plants are easy to build and are mounted on skids, so they are easier to set up. They are also easy to transport and re-erect on a new site. These plants are designed to fit into containers when they are dismantled, which makes transportation easier and cheaper,” Botha said.
