JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Operations at JSE- and TSX-listed Buffalo Coal’s Aviemore colliery, near Dundee, in KwaZulu-Natal, have been suspended following the death of an employee.

The company on Tuesday said a mine employee had died in hospital from injuries sustained in a blasting incident, which occurred underground on September 20.

A full investigation would be conducted by mine management, as well as representatives of the Department of Mineral Resources and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union.

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased. All operations at Aviemore have been suspended until such time as management and the board are satisfied as to the safety of our employees,” Buffalo CEO Malcolm Campbell said.
