Company Announcement - The high demand for housing and associated infrastructure facilities has continued during 2014 with housing and retail projects rising on every horizon. Although market conditions remain competitive, expectations remain high of a similar level of activity in the building and construction sectors for 2015. Oconbrick, a leading supplier of clay stock and clay semi-face bricks in South Africa, reports 2014 as a busy year in the manufacture of bricks, with demand across all types of projects not abating. Oconbrick is currently on track for the delivery of over seven million stock bricks to projects varying from simple accommodation to residential estate developments across the Gauteng Province. Oconbrick Regional Sales Manager, Mariana Lamont commented “We have had an excellent 2014, and are pleased to have maintained a good year-on-year growth. Based on current statistics and expectations for 2015, we foresee the current success continuing through next year. We are fortunate to have an excellent manufacturing capability which enables us to meet large orders for stock and clay bricks easily, making our delivery reliability one of the key factors for winning tenders and orders”.

“With a manufacturing capability of well over a million bricks per day, Oconbrick is delivering to over ten current accommodation-related projects: from student accommodation in Hillbrow through to Waterfall Equestrian Estate through to Linbro Business Park – all of these projects have utilised the Oconbrick product due to its dual purpose of internal and external applications, longevity and cost effectiveness” said Lamont.

Student Accommodation
Gothic Construction is building 180 x 6 room, plus bathroom and kitchen units for student accommodation in Hillbrow for developer Midnight Storm Investments. Oconbrick has already delivered 1.7 million stock bricks with more due as the project nears its completion date of January 2015. Site Manager, Janiel Strydom said “Oconbrick had the capacity to deliver to site as per our requirement; their reputation for prompt delivery is one of the factors that we chose their stock brick, the other factor was the quality of the brick”.

Housing and Apartments

Palladian House, builders of exclusive quality homes, required 1.8 million clay stock bricks for their project, a three unit cluster development in Bryanston. Gareth Macintosh, a Director at Palladian House commented “We had certain delivery cycle requirements and Oconbrick had the stocks we needed. They were able to deliver at 24 hours’ notice; the fact that Oconbrick always met our deadlines was impressive”.

Other housing and apartment projects currently under construction include: Ruimsig, Roodepoort, Waterfall Equestrian Estate, Bryanston, Pretoria, Northcliff, Linbro Park and Stone Ridge. The Oconbrick stock brick range offers characteristics not usually found in other brick offerings such as: fire resistance; superior thermal insulation; low carbon footprint; acoustic properties; low water absorption and ease of handling. While the clay semi-face brick is maintenance free; requires no plastering/no paint; initial costs are the final costs as well as longevity, strength and being environmentally friendly.
