The Vaal Mall  (0.02 MB)

The Vaal Mall, which originally opened nine years ago, recently underwent a R420 million upgrade. The second phase expansion of the Vaal Mall created an additional 50,000 square meters to the centre which now boasts a new cinema complex, new stores and restaurants as well as three new levels of customer parking. Ocon Brick were chosen as the supplier of clay stock bricks for the project.

Giuricich Bros Construction, Site Manager, Marcello Acquisto commented “Ocon Brick were chosen due to their competitive pricing and the fact that their manufacturing plant was in close proximity to the project. They gave us a 48 hour turnaround time on brick delivery requirements, which is the kind of reliability we seek on major projects of this kind”.

Luca Steyn, Ocon Brick Sales Representative said “Ocon Brick supplied clay stock bricks to the original Vaal Mall development, so we were pleased to have been chosen again as the supplier of clay stock bricks for the expansion programme to the Mall which commenced in February 2016. In order to accommodate the large quantities of bricks for the project the existing parking area was closed off for a period of time and used as a storage facility”.

“We strive to ensure that our reputation for excellent delivery service in terms of stock availability and reliability remains intact, and were pleased that we met Giuricich Bros Construction’s delivery schedules as progress was made on the Mall expansion development. Ocon Brick supplied 3.2 million clay stock bricks in total for Phase One and Phase Two of the Vaal Mall” said Steyn.

Ocon Brick’s clay stock bricks offer developers and contractors advantages such as: low carbon footprint, durability and strength, naturally fire-resistant, have low water absorption and offer a superior thermal insulation as well as good acoustic properties.

The company has recently been awarded its eighth PMR Golden Arrow Award for product excellence and high customer satisfaction rating, and has a manufacturing capability of over a million bricks per day.
