Project Description
The Néstor Kirchner-Jorge Cepernic hydroproject will use water from the Santa Cruz river to generate electricity. The hydrocomplex is also expected to produce surplus energy, which could potentially be sold to Brazil.

The Néstor Kirchner dam will be 75.5 m high, include six Francis turbines and have an installed capacity of 1 140 MW, while the Jorge Cepernic dam will be 43.5 m high, include five Kaplan turbines and have an installed capacity of 600 MW.

The project is expected to employ 5 000 workers during the construction stage.

The project is expected to cost about $5-billion to implement.

The project is expected to be completed by 2020.

Latest Developments
The Argentina government has announced that it will directly award the contract for the 1 740 MW Kirchner-Cepernic hydrocomplex to expedite its completion, forgoing public tenders.
