A gap in the market has encouraged manufacturer and distributor of rubber products Truco to introduce its own branded compressed nonasbestos fibre (CNAF) this year, which is mainly used in the manufacturing of gaskets.
Truco divisional director Pierre Morgenrood says that the nonasbestos fibre is ideal in applications where high temperature and pressure, which rubber cannot always handle, is required.
Truco offers five variants in the range, including CNAF sheeting for low, medium and high pressure applications, oil-resistant and steel wire mesh reinforced sheeting.
The low, medium and high pressure CNAF sheeting is manufactured from aramid fibres blended with natural rubber/nitrile butadiene rubber (NR/NBR), making the products ideal for use in a diverse range of applications. The oil-resistant medium pressure variant is also manufactured using aramid fibres, but is blended with oil-resistant rubber to make it resistant to oil-based materials. The steel mesh variant is made from aramid fibres blended with NR/NBR rubber and reinforced with 304 stainless steel. This sheeting is ideal for use in high pressure, high temperature applications.
Morgenrood says that, with the ban on the use of asbestos fibre products, the demand from customers for alternative products has grown. "We identified the appropriate alternative and have introduced CNAF to replace the traditional asbestos sheeting that has been used for many years. The CNAF sheeting is used to complement rubber in the manufacture of gaskets."
He asserts that the company had to undertake a significant amount of market research before introducing the CNAF sheeting, since the product is fully imported. "The CNAF sheeting is independently tested and certified to show that it complies with nonasbestos specifications," he adds.
Truco does compete with local companies that manufacture their own nonasbestos fibre, as well as others that import the product, but Morgenrood believes that Truco offers more than just a product to customers. "We offer peace of mind, at a reasonable price and a solution to most customer demands," he notes.
He adds that, since expanding its products offering, Truco is one step further in achieving its aim of being a complete solutions provider to the gasket industry through supplying a comprehensive and varied product range.
The CNAF sheeting forms part of Truco's sheeting product range which includes commodity rubber, abrasion resistant rubber, specialised rubber, belting products, and rubber flooring. With Truco's extensive range of products on offer, it is now catering for the broad spectrum of requirements in the gasket industry. Truco is using its base of gasket manufacturers to meet customer and project requirements.
