A cutting-edge desktop workstation designed to meet the needs of virtual production, three-dimensional (3D) rendering, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning has recently been unveiled.

The latest addition to HP’s Z collection, the HP Z6 G5 A includes the highest number of cores in the range and can configure up to three high-performance graphics cards.

Powered by the AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX-series central processing unit (CPU), the unit features up to 96 cores in a single workstation CPU, allowing users to create and render simultaneously. With space for up to three NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada generation graphics processing units (GPUs) or advanced micro device (AMD) GPUs and eight memory channels, the Z6 G5 A can be expanded as demands increase.

Specifically suited to virtual production, 3D modeling tasks, or complex, advanced data sets, the unit has flexible storage options with front-accessible, hot-swappable non-volatile memory express, or NVMe, drives for easy access to large files.

The layout of the workstation has been redesigned to increase airflow and the use of intelligent fan control ensures optimal fan speeds for quiet operation. The workstation is built using 40% recycled plastics, which HP notes is part of its commitment to sustainability.

The workstation is also designed for use in a hybrid work environment and the HP Anyware software solution enables 3D visual effects, or VFX, AI, and machine learning workflows under varying network connections. The remote system controller enables information technology managers to monitor and manage workstation fleets without compromising control. In addition, the Z by HP Data Science Stack Manager streamlines access to open-source software solutions. The HP Z6 G5 A supports Windows Subsystem for Linux 2, or WSL2, which enables Linux to run within the Windows ecosystem with access to tools from the Z by HP Data Science Stack Manager and the new Z by HP AI Studio.
