Since local sensor solutions company Countapulse Controls introduced the Leuze 18B series range of sensors to the local market in the last quarter of 2013, sales of the product have been favourable, Countapulse Controls MD Gerry Bryant tells Engineering News.

He says the high-performance sensors have been engineered for use in all applications involving transparent material such as plastic.

Bryant adds that, compared with its predecessor, the Leuze 18B series sensors offer smaller dimensions in a “significantly more robust housing”.

The benefits of the sensors include shorter response times, higher switching frequency, improved adjustability of the switching point and a tracking function for extending the cleaning interval.

Further, Bryant highlights that the sensors were engineered using “the latest advances in sensor technology” and they can “reliably and rapidly” detect
fast-moving, small, thin and transparent objects such as foils.

“The major advantage of the sensors is that they can operate under extreme environmental conditions. This is a game-changer in industries, such as food and beverage and packaging, as it significantly improves productivity and output levels at plant operations,” he states.

Bryant points out that the light spot and the light-emitting diode display have been improved to make them more visible, thereby also simplifying the startup and operation of the sensors.

He adds that the sensor’s optics reduce light-beam tolerances to the extent that the mounting can be quickly performed without the system having to be aligned.

The sensors can be connected to an electricity source using an M12 plug or an integrated cable.
