South African research and development company Roto Solutions launched the new TempLogger V 6.6 ULTRA – the smallest temperature monitoring and control device from the company – in February.

“The TempLogger V 6.6 ULTRA is perfectly suited to rotational moulders in the manufacture of hollow plastics, and can be installed on any machine and/or be carried from plant to plant,” says Roto Solutions owner Gary Lategan.

The device does not need a power supply, as it can be plugged directly into a USB port. It can be attached to machine arm platforms of moulders to monitor internal and external temperatures through K-Type thermocouples. The data is sent from the oven and cooling bays to the control station where the heating and cooling cycles are monitored.

Further, the control station can monitor four temperature channels with up to six alarms, and can also operate six relays to control the TempLogger V 6.6 ULTRA. Alarms will sound when the internal or external temperature of a rotational moulder is too high, battery life is low or thermocouples are faulty or disconnected.

Multiple senders can be run from one base station to monitor multiple stations and machines at a plant. The connection points are external, so there is no need to open the sender to connect additional thermocouples.

“TempLogger is a full reporting system with production history and graphs for proof of quality. Plus, it records all production materials used per cycle, shift or day,” points out Lategan.

“We designed the system and wrote our own software, with features that no one else in the world offers,” he declares. For example, the TempLogger V 6.6 ULTRA can be monitored live from anywhere in the world and any language can be added to operate the system. The latter is quite important, as the company exports equipment to 68 countries, Lategan points out.

The TempLogger V 6.6 ULTRA enables the client to exercise complete control over the rotational moulding cycle and process. It enables clients to understand the process completely and make improvements without guesswork. This can improve profit by increasing product quality, while reducing energy usage and improving cycle times, concludes Lategan.
