Steam and hot-water equipment supplier Allmech introduced its expanded range of oil- and gas-fired three-pass boilers to the market in February.

“Two of our oil-fired boilers are successfully in operation and we have developed a range of steam boilers from 500 kg/h to 5 000 kg/h. All have an operating pressure of 1 000 kPa. The design of the gas pass on these horizontal, three-pass boilers ensures that full combustion of the fuel takes place, as the flame reverses in the combustion chamber. This allows more time to complete the combustion and then passes through the tube bank to the chimney,” says Allmech director Allan Cunningham.

The boilers are designed for high efficiency operation with solid tube sheets ensuring no tube leaks during operation. The large combustion chamber avoids impinge- ment from the burner and the water level is also carefully monitored by means of Mowbrey float-level controls. The boilers can be fitted with either gas or oil burners and the company’s Eco Star burners range can also be adapted for other operations in ovens as well as conversions.

To enable the boiler plant to operate free of scale and corrosion at all times, Allmech offers a water-treatment plant with each boiler. This is serviced and backed by Allmech’s water-treatment division. The company also offers chemicals to ensure that boiler and cooling-tower plants remain clean and free of scale, corrosion, bacteria and algae. By adding chemicals at the correct rate to the cooling towers or boiler plants, efficiencies are maintained, ensuring reduced operating costs.

“We offer to maintain your existing water-treatment equipment or supply new water-treatment equipment for your boilers or cooling towers, and we have a range of chemical dosing pumps, bleed-off systems, blow-down systems and softening plants, as well as other equipment. Our technicians will service the equip- ment regularly on site and check that the chemicals supplied are correctly dosed to the plant, ensuring that the water treatment is operating at its best,” adds Cunningham.

The boilers are manufactured in South Africa according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers boiler and pressure vessel code, have third-party inspection and documentation and comply fully with the Occupational Safety and Health Act as well as the Mine Health and Safety Act.
