Brazilian iron-ore miner and pellet producer Samarco Mineração set a monthly production record during August, with 824 829 t of high-grade pellets being produced in a single pelletising line with its 816 m2 pelletising plant at its Ubu iron-ore processing site, in Brazil.

On a yearly basis, the production is equivalent to between 8.8-million and 9-million tonnes of pellets being produced by a single machine.

Samarco’s Ubu complex, located about 80 km from Vitória, includes four pelletising plants, four water treatment stations and the Ponta Ubu Maritime Terminal.

Samarco has installed three additional Metso pelletising plants at the Ubu site.

“It makes us proud to see how our solutions are helping our customers improve their pelletising operations while simultaneously supporting the journey toward decarbonisation,” says Samarco South America ferrous and heat transfer sales manager Pedro Sousa.

Currently, only plant number 4 is in operation, and Samarco and industrial machinery company Metso are discussing the refurbishment of the three other pelletising plants at Ubu to continue increasing pellet production, as well as assisting Samarco with steel decarbonisation efforts using sustainable technologies, according to Samarco’s gradual production revamp plan.
