New fan motors developed for timber dryersBack
Specialist in electromechanical engineering Leroy-Somer has developed a range of fan motors specifically for timber dryers that ensure efficient operation, significant energy savings and extended service life.
“After trees have been cut, wood requires seasoning or drying and, depending on its proposed use, the moisture content must be lower than 15%,” says Leroy-Somer MD Grant Robertson.
“The wood can be left to dry naturally, but this is a long process. “Artificial drying, which is faster and more efficient, is recommended, but the aggressive environment of drying structures makes it even more important that the correct equipment is used.
“Usually, fan units, powered by standard ‘derated’ motors, are used to provide a homogenous mixture of air, but because of the extreme operating conditions, they have a limited service life.
“Leroy-Somer fan motors, which are designed to operate efficiently in conditions where ambient temperatures reach 150
