Name and Location
New Energy modernisation project, Siberia, Russia.

Client
EuroSibEnergo.

Project Description
The modernisation programme will perform upgrades at the 6 000 MW Krasnoyarsk hydropower plant as well as the Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk hydropower plants (with capacities of 4 500 MW and 3 840 MW respectively) on the Angara and Yenisei rivers.

It includes replacing theplants’ hydraulic components, 12 turbine runners, generator transformers and switchgear.

It will boost the dams’ yearly power output by 1.5-billion kilowatts without increasing the amount of hydroresources in use.

The modernisation will be equal to the construction of a new 400 MW hydropower facility and will eliminate two-million tons of greenhouse-gas emissions a year.

After the initial upgrades, EuroSibEnergo will supply a new turbine runner and other technological improvements to the Irkutsk plant, raising its output from 160 MW to 822 MW.

Value
$200-million.

Duration
The modernisation is expected to be completed by 2018.
