New additions to gear-pump range

Local pump supplier Pump Solutions is current- ly working on sever- al developments MD Ian Gill reports.

“We are currently upgrading our range of pumps and have already added five pumps to the range,” he says, adding that there are more than 500 Vimpi pumps in operation in Southern Africa.

The Vimpi gear pumps, supplied by Pump Solutions, include heavy-duty internal eccentric gear pumps which, because of their large pitch tolerance between gears, are preferred for viscous liquids, like molasses, asphalt and grease.

Helical-gear pumps are useful for light and medium liquids where direct motor speeds can also be used, cutting out the cost of speed reduction. Spur-gear pumps are used in applications where low flow and high pressure (up to 20 bar) is required, explains Gill.

Also supplied by Pump Solutions are pumps with external bearings where the liquid pumped does not lubricate, or on products which are operating at very high temperatures.

Usage areas for Vimpi’s pumps include emulsion, bitumen, asphalt, pigments, paint, fuel-oil, hot oil, petroleum, paraffin, detergents, chocolate, glucose, food, alcohol, soap, resin, acids, alkalis, olive oil, shampoos and molasses.

On competition, Gill says that there are many competitors in the market but, by providing a quality product and good back-up service with the extensive product knowledge and a competitive price, the company is able to maintain its existing customers and, with an expanding product range, is growing.

Pump Solutions imports Vimpi pumps from Turkey’s Vimpi Viscous Liquid Pumps. Vimpi was established in 1970 in order to solidify the local gear-pump industry.

It became the preferred trademark in domestic and foreign markets by receiving international approval with a TSE EN ISO 9002 quality management system certificate.

“Vimpi gives a good backup service to us and is proactive in meeting our needs and those of customers,” says Gill.

In addition to gear pumps, a range of valves, burners, valve pumps, blowers and some centrifugal pumps, specifically designed for hot oil, are available in the Vimpi product range.

Pump Solutions places high emphasis on delivering on time and increasing customer satisfaction by supporting the product with large stock holdings of pumps and spares and technical after-sale services.

The company has agents throughout South Africa and also exports to other African countries. It currently has a warehouse in Jetpark, on the East Rand, and is in the process of building a factory in Alrode.
