The world’s largest container line, AP Moller-Maersk, reported earlier this month that it had been able to reinstate its full-year earnings guidance at a higher level than it had previously indicated, after staying open for business throughout the Covid-19 crisis. Global demand growth for containers was still expected to contract in 2020, but CEO Soren Skou told shareholders that the company was able to continue to serve the global transportation needs of its customers and supply chains throughout the quarter “under very difficult circumstances”. He added: “We were never closed for business.” Photograph: Bloomberg
