Name and Location
Musandam Power Company (MPC) power plant project, Oman.

Client
MPC, a majority-owned subsidiary of Oman Oil Company.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a 120 MW power plant in Northern Oman.

The power plant will provide electricity for the governorate of Musandam.

Value
Not stated.

Duration
The power plant is scheduled to be fully operational in late 2016.

Latest Developments
Wärtsilä has been awarded a contract to supply a 120 MW Smart Power Generation power plant for the MPC.

The plant will be delivered on a turnkey basis and includes a long-term service and maintenance agreement of 15 years.

The Smart Power Generation plant will consist of 15 Wärtsilä 34DF engines.

The dual-fuel units will use natural gas as the main fuel and light fuel oil as backup. The power station will meet the dynamic load demand in the rapidly developing Musandam governorate, responding to load variations of between 10 MW and 120 MW.

It will operate in high humidity and extreme temperatures of up to 50 °C. The plant is designed to operate in island mode in the isolated Musandam grid.

This means reliability is imperative.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Wärtsilä Power Plants (power plant).

On Budget and on Time?
