This followed a lengthy process of strategic planning and introspection.
The transformation team had appointed consultants Marketing Assignments to assist in developing the appropriate strategy and business plan, which was approved by the Executive Committee earlier this month.
The five-year plan comprised three phases, with the first phase including the establishment of a dedicated Imesa office and appointment of a CEO, as well as preparing the institution and its members for the more significant changes in Phase Two (2006 to 2007).
The upcoming Imesa annual conference, to be held in Port Elizabeth from October 18 – 25, would be used to obtain membership buy-in and support for the new strategy.
The 24-month second phase would be more externally focused, with a strategic focus on addressing skills shortages and seeking longer-term partnerships with key institutions and organisations.
Phase Three would become clearer once the first two phases had been strategically evaluated, although drivers and opportunities during that period (2008/09) included the 2010 Soccer World Cup to be held in South Africa and the new national elections which signify President Thabo Mbeki’s last term of office, Imesa said.
