PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Uranium developer Energy and Minerals Australia (EMA) has called for public opinion on the environmental scoping document for its Mulga Rock project, in Western Australia.

The environmental scoping document formed part of the ongoing environmental evaluation for the proposed A$300-million project. The document would be available for public review for two weeks from December 8.

“This is the next step in the public consultation of the permitting process. We are currently undertaking a prefeasibility study and plan to complete our definitive feasibility study by mid-2015,” said EMA MD Mike Young.

EMA was hoping to develop a 1 400 t/y uranium mine at Mulga Rock, with a mine life of 15 years.

“China has confirmed it is embracing nuclear power to reach its commitment to reduce emissions. We are focus on commencing construction in late-2016 with first ore production in 2017 to meet what can only be described as a wall of demand for uranium,” Young said.
