MTN announced on Monday that the Nigerian Communications Commission had extended the deadline for payment of the $5.2-billion fine levied against it over unregistered subscribers to allow for negotiations between the two to continue.

A statement from the telecommunications company said its executive chairperson, Phuthuma Nhleko, had met with the Nigerian authorities to discuss matters of non-compliance and “the remedial measures that may have to be adopted to address this”. The talks were continuing.
