Mt Mulgine granted environmental approval
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The Mt Mulgine tungsten project in the Murchison region of Western Australia has been granted environmental approval on federal and state level, ASX-listed Tungsten Mining reported on Thursday.
The environmental approval, coupled with the recent agreement to acquire a modular processing plant for Mt Mulgine, has placed the company firmly on track to produce tungsten concentrate by 2018.
Last month, Tungsten paid A$600 000 for a “near-new” processing plant from Pilbara Minerals. The plant was decommissioned when Pilbara suspended the Tabba tantalum project.
The plant has a nameplate capacity of 30 t/h with upside to increase throughput through optimisation of the existing plant or addition of modules.
Tungsten CEO Craig Ferrier described the environmental approval as a “major milestone” for the project.
The federal government assessed the Mt Mulgine project under the Environmental Protection and Diversity Act 1999 and determined that the project does not constitute a controlled action and that no further assessment is required.
The Western Australian government’s Environmental Protection Agency also advised that the project does not require formal assessment under the state’s Environmental Protection Act.
