The Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit has announced that the first race event to be held on the refurbished, new-look track will take place from October 21 to 23.

The October race meeting will form part of the Motorsport South Africa Extreme Festival National Racing Roadshow, and will feature motorsport categories such as Global Touring Cars, the Volkswagen Cup, Extreme Supercars and National Superbikes, as well as other motor racing categories, says spokesperson Christo Kruger.

Construction work on the Midrand site is nearing completion, with a new chapter in the history of the race track about to begin, he adds.

The 55-year-old race track is being revamped, upgraded and expanded in a multimillion-rand project by new owner businessperson Toby Venter.

Venter’s company, LSM Distributors, also owns the distribution rights to Porsche, Bentley and Ducati in South Africa.

Work on the 73 ha Kyalami site started in the middle of last year.
