Modular construction methods help reduce waiting times at clinics in Mpumalanga

In partnership with the Department of Health, Kwikspace Modular Buildings has successfully installed 132 doctor’s consultation rooms at clinics throughout Mpumalanga. The new clinics, each measuring 250 m2, have sufficient capacity for up to six people to be treated simultaneously.
Additional consultation areas could ease overcrowding and reduce waiting times at clinics, which should encourage patients to undergo testing and treatment for diseases such as HIV and TB. These illnesses represent significant issues in the province where, according to the SA National HIV Prevalence Survey conducted in 2012, approximately 10% of residents between the ages of 15 and 24 were reported to be HIV positive.
The use of modular construction methods provided a rapid solution to the urgent requirement for additional clinic space. Using robust KwikMAX building solutions Kwikspace was able to deliver high quality permanent consultation rooms to 19 separate locations throughout the province in under a year.
KwikMAX products are manufactured using light weight steel framing technology which is incorporated into factory manufactured, structurally insulated panels that can be rapidly assembled on site. The panels are filled with 90mm high density Polyurethane foam which is fire resistant and offers further safety benefits to clinic users. The units also offer excellent noise reduction and thermal insulation, providing a high level of comfort to patients.
Comments David Van Zyl, Kwikspace’s Building Systems Manager: “We are thrilled to have contributed to the Department of Health’s plans to improve healthcare in Mpumalanga. Comfortable, spacious clinics along with reduced waiting times will encourage people to seek the vital medical care they need.”
