Mobile hard-drive shredder plant launched in Africa
MOBILE SERVICE All the shredding of the hard drives can be performed in the new, independently powered shred truck at clients’ business’ premises
Secure information technology (IT) asset disposal services provider Xperien has launched the first mobile hard drive shredder plant in Africa, which is a fully equipped Protection of Personal Information-compliant truck that provides on-site degaussing and destruction facilities.
Magnetic Charge Degaussing is a process that uses a magnetic charge to eliminate data and it also destroys other components of the hard disk drive. Degaussed drives can then be thrown away, recycled or destroyed, according to Xperien’s website.
Recognising the demand for versatile data destruction, Xperien introduced the new business model, which involves the use of shredding trucks for mobile hard-drive destruction.
The trucks offer mobile data destruction services, which includes the physical shredding of 300 hard drives, 500 data tapes, USBs and up to 400 mobile/cellphones an hour.
Xperien senior business development manager Bridgette Vermaak says data destruction requirements are constantly evolving; therefore, service providers need to adapt by investing in versatile equipment.
Vermaak explains that, when a client chooses Xperien’s on-site data destruction, all the shredding is performed in the new, independently powered shred truck at the client’s business premises. “The mobile shredding trucks are the answer to portability and efficiency in data destruction,” she says,
She notes that, to ensure maximum security, the company can also provide video footage of shredding events and issue certificates for an audit trail.
Xperien is Environmental Management System ISO 14001:2004- and ISO 9001- accredited for the refurbishment and redistribution of redundant IT assets and equipment.
“Along with an unbeatable level of convenience and security, with our mobile shredding service, clients will still receive the same quality assurances they would normally receive from Xperien,” Vermaak concludes.
