Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Paul Mashatile will on Thursday hand over houses and title deeds to beneficiaries of Westonaria Borwa housing project.

In a statement, the Human Settlements Department said the megahousing project includes BNG/RDP, bonded, gap market, and social housing or rental stock as well as social and economic amenities.

“The project which has delivered close to 1 700 houses and 30 00 serviced sites was initially aimed at eradicating the existing informal settlement of Bekkersdal, however, the other informal settlements have since been incorporated into the project. These include Waterworks, Zuurbekom, Thusanang and Venterspos,” the department said.

The department said it is committed to “restoring the dignity” of ordinary South Africans through the delivery of sustainable human settlements.

“To date, over 4.6-million houses and subsidies have been delivered across the country benefiting millions of deserving households,” said the department adding that: “The handing over of houses and title deeds in Westonaria Borwa will benefit among others, senior citizens, child headed households and people living with disabilities.”

The department said Sisulu and Mashatile will visit and deliver some of the title deeds to selected beneficiaries, made up of the elderly and people living with disabilities, who are already living in their houses.
