Although Zambia is the largest copper producer in Africa and seventh largest globally, in recent years the copper sector has been hit hard by falling commodity prices. This has driven a need to diversify the country’s economy. Solid growth is forecast for Zambia’s mining between 2017 and 2021, according to research firm BMI, following proposed changes to the country’s regulatory environment. Favourable global copper prices and rising cobalt demand will attract foreign investment, says the report.
With only 58% of the country geologically mapped, there is considerable potential for further discoveries of gold, diamonds, coal and a variety of industrial minerals. However, diversification is also needed to reduce the country’s reliance on mining and the government is looking to other sectors such as agriculture, tourism, construction and manufacturing.

Taking place from 6th to 8th June at the Kitwe Showgrounds, the CAMINEX & CBM-TEC trade exhibition is well positioned to provide a platform to stimulate business in the mining, industrial and agricultural sectors across the Copperbelt. Government and industry associations are in full support of the exhibition as it showcases the diversification needed to build a sustainable economy.

The Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Zambia Chamber of Mines, Zambia Environmental Management Agency, the Engineering Institution of Zambia, the Department of Trade and Industry South Africa with a DTI Pavilion showcasing South African companies, and the SA Capital Equipment Export Council will have stands at the show, ready to engage with the thousands of visitors expected to attend.

The Honourable Christopher Yaluma (MP), Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development of the Republic of Zambia will be a seminar speaker on Tuesday 6th of June talking about the outlook for the Zambia mineral market and driving economic diversification, overcoming challenges and discovering new opportunities.

The Honourable Dora Siliya (MP), Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Zambia will present an address at the seminar series on Wednesday. Her keynote presentation will outline how agriculture and manufacturing are key enablers to developing a sustainable agro-industry.

In addition to the free-to-attend seminar series, visitors to the show will have the opportunity to engage with over 150 local and international exhibitors representing the mining, industrial, agricultural and financial sectors. On view will be a broad showcase of products, machinery, equipment and consumables and visitors will also gain insight into the latest innovation, technologies, services and solutions available. Live demonstrations, conversations with technical experts on the stands and interaction with seminar speakers will enable visitors to tap into an extensive pool of knowledge.

All our exhibitors have put in countless hours of preparation to make this a unique and beneficial experience for visitors. It will be an exciting three days.
