Positioned as a world-class diesel engine components remanufacturer, Metric Automotive Engineering is South Africa’s most comprehensively equipped remanufacturer. The company was established as a family business in 1969 and has an operating philosophy of investing in the latest technology and quality equipment, which is critical when staying abreast of significant industry changes, such as the move towards much larger, heavy diesel engines.

Two of Metric Automotive Engineering’s most recent investments in new equipment include one of the largest crankshaft grinding machines in Africa and a state-of-the-art new-generation three-axis computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine. The crankshaft grinding machine is capable of grinding shafts of up to 4.7 m long, with weights of up to 5 t. This machine will allow for the grinding of crankshafts from industrial compressors right through to the V16 locomotive diesel engine.

The CNC machining centre is the only machine of its kind in Africa. It is capable of line boring, surfacing and blue-printing blocks over 6 m in length.

Metric Automotive Engineering has an established reputation for remanufacturing high-quality diesel engine components and offers a range of related services, including cylinder head remanufacturing, cylinder block line boring, milling, honing and boring, camshaft grinding, crankshaft grinding, engine assembly and dynamometer testing
