Company Announcement - Iconic new urban development, Melrose Arch, has become the new home of some of South Africa’s top legal minds. International law firm Eversheds has relocated its offices to the well-positioned precinct. Surrounded by world-class hotels, luxury apartments and the best local and international retail, Melrose Arch boasts pristine offices occupied by the likes of Stanlib, Worley Parsons, Bidvest Group, Lonmin, British Airways, Royal Bafokeng Holdings, Sasfin Wealth and DuPont.

“We’re pleased to support Eversheds in growing its business in an environment that promotes innovation and diversity. I am certain that they will be very happy here,” says Melrose Arch precinct manager, Mike Vermaak. Eversheds, a full-service multidisciplinary law firm that provides legal services in virtually every area of law, also has offices in Durban and Bryanston, in South Africa. It has moved its litigation, commercial, tax and intellectual property departments to the new offices at Melrose Arch. “We wanted to distinguish ourselves from our major competitors who are moving to the Sandton CBD,” says Eversheds Managing Partner, Peter van Niekerk. “Our new office space also ties in with our vision for planned growth as well as our recent rebrand which took place in July 2015. This re-brand also incorporates a whole new visual identity which reflects our innovative culture; it is all about forward thinking, approaching things differently and going the extra mile for our clients and staff.”

Renee Feeney, head of leasing at Melrose Arch who concluded the deal with Eversheds, notes that Melrose Arch is respected as one of the most prestigious business addresses in South Africa. Secure, pristine and pedestrian friendly, Melrose Arch is considered an ideal location by many top national and multinational concerns and leading blue-chip companies because of the ease, safety and enjoyment it offers for business at the highest levels. “We used our move to position ourselves as one of the major legal players in the South African legal market,” adds van Niekerk. Eversheds’ new office is designed to provide it with more space to grow as a firm with a mix of open-plan offices. It boasts a spacious, colourfully branded and stylishly decorated client and staff entertainment area, intended to enhance the overall experience when visiting. Clients and staff also have access to ample safe parking.

“Melrose Arch offers our staff access to all sorts of close-by amenities such as retail shops, restaurants, hotels, banks and gyms,” van Niekerk says.

Melrose Arch is South Africa’s original and leading new urban city – a growing vibrant quarter where people live, shop, work and play in a celebrated safe open-air environment. It is part of the pioneering portfolio of the Amdec Group, a privately-owned property development and investment business. With 26 years of experience in the property industry, Amdec is recognised as South Africa’s leading developer of New Urban lifestyles. Eversheds opened its new offices late last year, officially launched by pre-eminent senior counsel in South Africa, Michael Kuper.

“We celebrated the occasion with some or our most loyal clients as it was important to us to acknowledge this milestone with them. We are confident the move to Melrose Arch will result in not only our own growth but their continued support as we watch Eversheds move forward.”
