Name and Location
M’Boundi gas compression station and treatment plant, Republic of Congo.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a natural gas compression station and treatment plant at the onshore M’Boundi field, near the Atlantic coast, in the Republic of Congo.

The facility will provide compressed natural gas to power the turbines at two nearby power stations at Djeno, 30 km away from the city of Pointe Noire. These plants currently account for the bulk of the country’s electricity.

The project is part of the country’s ‘zero flaring’ programme, set up to reduce emissions from the burning of excess fuel and promote the efficient use of locally extracted energy sources.

Natural gas that was previously flared off and wasted at existing oil processing operations will instead be used to substantially increase the Congo’s power generating capacity and provide the country with a reliable source of electricity. Excess gas will be reinjected into the reservoir.

Value
The value of the project has not been disclosed.

Duration
Construction is scheduled to reach completion in less than two years.

Client
Eni Congo, a subsidiary of Italy’s Eni group.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
ABB (engineering, construction and commissioning).

Latest Developments
Leading power and automation technology group ABB has been awarded a contract valued at $151-million to engineer, construct and commission the new natural gas compression station and treatment plant at the M’Boundi oilfield.

ABB will provide overall project management, engineering, procurement, construction supervision, commissioning and startup services, as well as performance testing of the gas compression and gas treatment processes.

On Budget and on Time?
Not stated.
