Marathon Gold appoints Julie Robertson as CFO
TSX-listed Marathon Gold has appointed Julie Robertson as CFO, effective March 7, following the departure of Hannes Portmann, who will leave Marathon on January 31 to pursue an executive role with a private enterprise outside of the resource sector.
Marathon VP of finance Marco Galego will assume the role of interim CFO prior to Robertson taking up the position.
“Julie brings extensive experience in capital projects financial management, planning and control, from the perspectives of both the project site and corporate finance,” said Marathon president and CEO Matt Manson.
“She also brings to us industry-leading experience in the areas of corporate social responsibility compliance and reporting, risk management, and team development. These skill sets will be invaluable to us as we look forward to commencing construction at the Valentine gold project in central Newfoundland later this year,” he said.
Robertson is currently Centerra Gold finance and capital projects VP. Between 2006 and 2019, she held a number of increasingly senior roles for Barrick Gold Corporation at the corporate level and within Barrick’s capital projects group, culminating in the role of partner, VP and controller. She began her career in the audit practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Robertson is a Chartered Professional Accountant of Ontario and a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (BA: 1999) with a graduate diploma in Finance and Accounting from Wilfred Laurier University (2000).
She also serves as industry body Chartered Professional Accountants Canada Mining Industry Taskforce chair on the International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation, as Quebec Precious Metals director, and as Toronto-based charity Boost Child and Youth Advocacy director.
