More installers are becoming aware of fastener manufacturer Easyhold Fastener Systems’ products, enabling the company to increase production by 100% over the past two years, owner Clynton de Fin tells Engineering News.
The fasteners are manufactured from nylon and are, therefore, tough and noncorrosive.
“We began with one size but, as demand increased, we started manufacturing different sizes. There are now four sizes, ranging from 5 mm to 100 mm in diameter,” he says.
The installation is fairly simple: the required size hole is drilled in the position where the cable or pipe is to be fixed. Thereafter, the installer hammers in the plug, places the cable or pipe on the plug head and secures the correct cable tie.
The unique design of the plug allows for a cable tie to be threaded through its head, further simplifying the securing process.
“Today, rapid installations are a necessity. Large contracts often work with narrow timeframes and reliable, rapid installation procedures have become a neces- sity for most contractors,” he says.
De Fin adds that the fastener can also be used as a plastic anchor.
Common applications include electric cable, conduits, plumbing pipes and various do-it-yourself chores. Electricians, plumbers and air-conditioning installers have numerous applications for the fasteners.
“We first targeted the electrical industry and this is still the main market to which we sell,” he says.
De Fin says the company has not been affected by cheap imports.
“Our products are fairly unique. We do see similar products coming in but, so far, we have not been negatively affected by the imports at all,” he says.
Going forward, he says, the company hopes to expand its reach to the rest of South Africa and Africa.
“Currently, our fasteners are distributed in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town. As a manufacturer, we do not have much say in the marketing of our products and that is a challenge we are confronting with the help of our distributors.
“I hope to get the Easyhold fasteners into other areas of the country and on the continent soon,” he says.
He notes that the company also exports them twice a year to a distributor in Mauritius.
The fasteners have been tested by the South African Bureau of Standards and are distributed by manufacturer and distributor of cable accessories, test instruments, connectors and components HellermannTyton.
